Software Development Company in Tanzania
Digital Beaver builds custom software for Tanzanian companies from our base in Arusha. We are usually brought in when a business has outgrown spreadsheets and off-the-shelf tools, and the workarounds have started costing more than a proper system would.
When custom software is the right answer
Most of the time it is not, and we will say so. If an existing product does the job, buy it. Custom software costs more up front and has to be maintained, and no amount of enthusiasm from a developer changes that arithmetic.
It becomes the right answer in a few specific situations. When the way you work is genuinely different from the way the available products assume, and bending your business to fit the tool is costing more than the tool saves. When your process spans several systems that do not talk to each other, and a person is being paid to copy data between them. When the manual workaround has quietly become a full-time job. Or when the thing you want to sell is the system itself.
The clearest signal is a spreadsheet that has become load-bearing. Every business has one: the file that everything depends on, that only one person fully understands, that breaks when two people open it at once, and that nobody dares rebuild.
What we build
- Booking, reservation and availability systems, particularly for tourism and hospitality
- Internal operations tools: job tracking, dispatch, inventory, approvals
- Client and supplier portals that replace long email chains
- Reporting systems that assemble numbers currently compiled by hand each month
- Integrations between systems you already use, so data stops being retyped
- Automation of the repetitive work that consumes a person’s week
Built for how systems are actually used here
Software built for reliable offices makes assumptions that do not survive contact with this market. We plan around real conditions: intermittent connectivity, so a system does not lose someone’s work when the line drops mid-form; mobile-first use, because staff in the field are on phones rather than desktops; mobile money as a first-class payment method; and interfaces that people can learn without a training programme, because staff turnover is real and the system has to survive it.
How we scope a project
We start by watching how the work is done now. Not a requirements document written in a meeting, but the actual process, including the parts people are slightly embarrassed by, because that is where the real system lives.
Then we scope the smallest version that delivers genuine value, and build that first. Large systems specified completely up front tend to fail, because the specification is written when everyone understands the problem least. Something useful in the hands of real users after six weeks teaches you more than six months of planning.
From there we build in short cycles with something demonstrable at the end of each one. You see progress continuously and can change direction while changing direction is still cheap.
What you own
You own the source code, the data and the infrastructure. Everything is documented, and it is written in mainstream technologies that another competent developer can pick up.
We will not build you a system that only we can maintain. That arrangement is good for an agency and bad for a client, and it is the reason many companies are stuck with software they cannot change.
What it costs and how long it takes
A focused internal tool replacing one broken process typically takes six to twelve weeks. Larger platforms are staged, with the first useful version live early and further work built on top of it once real users have shaped it.
We quote fixed prices per stage rather than open-ended hourly billing, so you always know what the next phase costs before committing to it. Where a project genuinely cannot be scoped in advance, we say so and scope a short paid discovery phase instead of guessing at a number we would later have to revise.
