There are more web design companies in Arusha than there were five years ago, and the quality range is enormous. Here is how to judge one before you pay a deposit.
Ask to see work in your sector
A company that has built safari and lodge websites understands booking cycles, international guests, seasonality and the trust signals a traveller needs. A company that has only built shop websites will give you a shop website with photographs of elephants on it. Sector experience is the single most useful filter.
Test the speed of their own portfolio
Open two or three sites they have built, on your phone, on mobile data rather than wifi. If those sites are slow, yours will be too. You can also run any URL through Google PageSpeed Insights for free. This takes five minutes and tells you more than any sales meeting.
Ask who owns the accounts
The domain and hosting must be registered in your company name, with you holding the login details. Some companies register the domain in their own name, which quietly makes you a hostage. Ask the question directly and get the answer in writing.
Ask what happens after launch
Websites need updates, backups and monitoring. Find out whether support is included, what it costs, and how quickly they respond. A cheap build with no support is usually the most expensive option over three years.
Be careful with unusually low quotes
A very low price normally means a template, stock photography, no search setup and no support. That is a legitimate product for some businesses, but you should know that is what you are buying rather than discover it later.
Judge the questions they ask you
A serious partner asks about your customers, your margins, your competitors and what you are actually trying to grow. A supplier asks how many pages you want. The quality of their questions predicts the quality of the outcome.
