Plenty of Tanzanian companies still run on a Facebook page and WhatsApp, and for some of them that genuinely works. Here is when it stops working, and what it costs.
A social page is rented ground
Your followers, your posts and your reach belong to a platform that can change its rules, restrict your account or lose you reach overnight. It has happened to businesses here repeatedly. A website is the one asset in your marketing that you own outright.
Search is where the intent is
Someone scrolling social media is being interrupted. Someone typing “safari operator Arusha” or “IT company Tanzania” into Google has already decided to buy and is choosing who to buy from. You cannot appear in that moment without a website. This is the single largest source of demand most Tanzanian companies never touch.
Credibility in business to business work
If you tender for institutional, NGO or corporate work, a procurement officer will look you up. A company with no website is a risk on their evaluation sheet. This is often the difference between being shortlisted and being ignored, and it has nothing to do with your actual capability.
You control the story
On social media your message competes with everything else in the feed. On your own site you decide what a visitor sees first, what you emphasise and what you charge for. You also decide what happens next, which is where enquiry forms, booking systems and follow up live.
What it does not mean
It does not mean abandoning social media or WhatsApp. Both remain the fastest way to talk to customers in Tanzania. It means the website is the destination those channels point to, and the place where a stranger becomes an enquiry.
Start smaller than you think
A focused five page site that loads fast and explains clearly what you do will outperform an ambitious twenty page site that never gets finished. Launch, then grow it.

Let’s create something that makes your customers choose you
Your competitors are already online. The real question is whether they are being remembered more than you.
